As far as Riesling goes, we tend to stick to the classics, with our selections skewing towards the grape's spiritual homeland: Germany and Austria. With so many great winemakers representing the Mosel, Rhine and Danube, sometimes it's easy to overlook the up and coming regions outside of Europe. Luckily for us, a serendipitous mix-up between Austria and Australia led us to discover Pewsey Vale, a small winery in the hills overlooking Barossa, dedicated exclusively to Riesling. Bone-dry and racy in style, this wine is delicate, crisp and focused, with aromas of lemon rind, peach blossoms, granny smith and chamomile. On the palate, deep flavors of citrus, tart apples and white blossoms. It finishes with a fresh, zippy acidity and lingering, mouth-watering minerality.
